🇬🇪 Job offer letter in Georgia: what to include

Updated July 2026 · General information, not legal advice

Read in Русский · Deutsch

Georgia (the country) pairs a famously light-touch business environment with a Labour Code that was substantially strengthened in 2020. Contracts, probation and termination now have clear rules — and offers to relocating candidates should reflect them, not the older 'anything goes' reputation.

Quick facts

Contract form
Written contract required if employment exceeds 1 month
Probation
Up to 6 months, must be written and paid
Annual leave
24 working days paid (plus 15 days unpaid on request)
Income tax
Flat 20% on employment income, withheld by the employer
Notice
Typically 30 days' written notice for employer termination on most grounds

What to include in a Georgian offer letter

A Georgia offer usually specifies:

  • Position, workplace (Tbilisi, Batumi, remote) and working hours
  • Salary in GEL or USD/EUR equivalent — clarify the currency and any exchange-rate mechanism
  • Contract duration (indefinite or fixed-term)
  • Probation period (max 6 months, paid, in writing)
  • Annual leave (24 working days paid)
  • Any relocation support: visa-free stay terms, housing assistance

Probation rules

Probation may be agreed only in writing, for up to six months, and it must be paid. During probation the contract can be terminated with simplified procedure; afterwards, the Labour Code's termination grounds and 30-day notice (or compensation in lieu for certain grounds) apply.

Leave

Employees are entitled to 24 working days of paid annual leave and may request up to 15 additional unpaid days. Public holidays are separate. For remote-first companies hiring in Georgia, stating the leave policy explicitly avoids assumptions imported from other jurisdictions.

Why companies hire in Georgia

A flat 20% income tax withheld at source, minimal social contributions (a 2%+2% funded pension for citizens and residents), visa-free long stays for many nationalities and a fast business registry make Georgia one of the simplest places in the region to employ people — provided the written-contract and probation formalities are respected.
